Three options
Nota bene:
There are no blocks of rooms reserved for colloquium participants. Please make your own reservations by contacting the option of your choice. Generally, the earlier you book, the better the price (though modern marketing algorithms make generalizations of this sort tricky).
Prices quoted below are from 2024. Watch for 2025 updates in March.
Option 1: Book a Brooklyn hotel
- Use this map to find a suitable Brooklyn hotel (I recommend against booking a Brooklyn hotel outside the area encircled in purple on the map):
- Brooklyn hotels map 2024
- Hotels in the area encircled in pink are about 1.5 miles from our venue and an easy subway ride (15-20 minutes)
- Some specific options (though your own searching will turn up others) – prices on Hotels.com on March 4, 2024:

- Sonder – The Industrialist ($230) – Union St., Brooklyn

Option 2: Book a Brooklyn AirBnB, Bed & Breakfast, vel sim.
- Recommended Brooklyn neighborhoods within reasonable distance of our venue – 269 4th Ave, Brooklyn (AirBnB listings normally indicate what neighborhood they’re in):
- Park Slope
- South Slope
- Windsor Terrace
- Prospect Heights
- Clinton Hill
- Fort Greene
- Dumbo
- Brooklyn Heights
- Boerum Hill
- Cobble Hill
- Carrol Gardens
- Gowanus
- If you plan to travel by subway, you might prefer lodgings near a subway stop on an appropriate line. These are the lines that stop near our venue – 269 4th Ave, Brooklyn:
- 2 & 3 trains – to the Atlantic Ave/Barclay’s Center or Grand Army Plaza stops
- 4 & 5 trains – to the Atlantic Ave/Barclay’s Center stop (walk from here or change to the 2 or 3)
- B & Q trains – to the 7th Ave @ Flatbush stop
- R train – to the Union St stop (or the 4th Ave @ 9th St stop)
- F & G trains – to the 4th Ave @ 9th St or the 7th Ave @ 9th St stop
- See these stops on the map: Brooklyn hotels map 2024
- Subway info: MTA website
- Apple Maps and Google Maps are good for NYC subway directions; my preferred phone app is Citymapper
Option 3: Book a Manhattan hotel, AirBnB, etc.
- There are abundant, if more distant, hotels and other sorts of accommodation across the East River in the borough of Manhattan. Generally, the nearer to Brooklyn the shorter the travel time. But being near an appropriate subway line makes a considerable difference. (See appropriate subway lines just above.) Approximate travel times by subway from some Manhattan landmarks:
- Financial District – 30 minutes
- 14th St./Union Square – 35 minutes
- Washington Square Park (Greenwich Village) – 40 minutes
- Grand Central Terminal – 45 minutes
- Times Square – 45 minutes
